{Mr. & Mrs. Moeller}

People always ask me and I got to say "I love my job!" Two very special friends of mine got married last month and they hired me to shoot their wedding. It just doesn't get better then that. To be apart of Melissa and Kirks wedding was amazing. It was so beautiful and so much fun.

This wedding video could have gone on forever... Too bad I'm limited on space.

{Shyloh Winter Byod}

This was baby Boyd's first photo shoot! Photographers have always complained about taking pictures of babies. Mostly because you can never get babies to do what you want them to do, when you want them to do it. Shyloh was a very patient baby but like most babies didn't want to pose for the camera. So I gave up trying to pose her and just shot her doing her own thing. Babies are so cute(.) I found if I just left her alone I could capture her personality better. I love these photos and I'm sure her mother will keep them forever.

{Engagement Sessions}

www.sarajordanphotography.com

An engagement session is like a dress rehearsal. It gives you the oppertunity to work with your photographer before your wedding day. You get a chance to see how your photographer works and your photographer get to see how you pose. I like to use these sessions to teach my clients posing tricks, that they'd never learn otherwise.

Engagement portraits are mainly used as displays for the wedding, but they can also be used for engagement announcements, save the date, invitations, thank you cards, news papers, gifts, Christmas cards, sign in books, emails, etc...

{Katrina & Scott}

Katrina and Scotts wedding was simply charming. The wedding was intimate with only close friends and family attending. Their ceremony and reception was at the stunning Temecula Creek Inn. Over the years I’ve photographed many couples and these two are probably the nicest I’ve ever worked with. They make an adorable couple!

Happy Earth Day! Lets Save our Planet!

Protecting our planet is so very important to me. In honor of earth day I’m posting all the ways in which I try to conserve and reuse energy on a daily basis. I’m not perfect but I try.

• I mainly work from home.
• I recycle anything and everything I can.
• I reuse and repurpose everything
• I use low energy light bulbs.
• I wash my hair about every 3 days. (Shorter showers)
• I only run full loads laundry/dishes.
• I do laundry on warmer days in order to run the dryer less.
• I water my lawn may be once a week.
• I use reusable grocery bags.
• I use a reusable sports bottle instead of the one use plastic bottles.
• I dispose hazardous material properly.

Due to the drought I’m not planting any trees this year. Instead I’m taking my surplus of low energy bulbs to a friend’s house and installing them.

{Looking your best on your wedding day (Photo tips)}

In order to look your best on your wedding day, make sure you practice posing. For ideas on posing watch celebrities posse on the red carpet. They’ll always put their weight on their back leg, arms slightly away from the body and look directly in to the camera. The number one thing I catch people doing is sticking their chin up/out in photos. The second thing I find is that grooms are generally not comfortable in front of the camera and they over compensate by being goofy. If you think your going to need help posing schedule and engagement session so that I can have time to coach you before your big day.

Another thing that can really make or break you wedding photos is the makeup and hair. Sometimes I find that hair and makeup looks great to the eye but not to the camera. When you go in to test your hair and makeup make sure and take a picture to see how it photographs. One of the advantages to living in LA is that you have access to make up artist that do make up for magazines. Make sure to hire a makeup artist that has experience doing makeup for photography. Try and get someone like this to do your makeup. Additionally you should appoint a friend to hold on to your lip gloss and pressed powder for touch ups. Ask them to keep an eye one your hair, makeup, and wardrobe. Sometimes during weddings you’ll get so wrapped up in other things that you don’t have time to worry about your appearance.

{“Do I need a second shooter?”}

When couples ask me about a second shooter..... the first thing I ask is how many guest are you having? Usually any number over a hundred, a second shooter is something to be considered.

A second shooter provides many advantages.

• Having a second shooter means there will be additional back up should anything go wrong.

• You’ll also get double the coverage for a fraction of the price.

• You’ll have additional photos!!

• Many times there are multiple things happening at once and you can get coverage that you just can’t get with one photographer. Formals and Cocktail hour, Bride and Groom getting ready etc.....

• The biggest advantage is that you’ll have multiple angles of the same thing. For an example you’ll get the front and the back view of the bride walking down the aisle, tossing the Bouquet etc....

{Nicole & John}

PhotobucketPhotobucket

These wedding photos turned out lovely. Nicole and John are both very sweet and make such a great couple. Their currently expecting their first baby. (WooHoo!) I wish them all the happiness in the world.

{Shot List}

Gorgeous photographs are the easiest way to relive your wedding day. A good photographer can make it so that you never forget those embarrassing speeches, the first dance, and your proud parents faces. When I’m photographing a wedding I usually never miss a thing, but why take that chance? Make a list of the photos you can’t live without and get them to me a week prior to your event. Also designate someone to help me coral people for the formals photographs (since I don’t know uncle Frank). Having someone who pretty much knows everyone makes things go smoother and helps to make sure I get everyone in the picture.

Here is a great link to an online example of a shot list.

{A very helpful meeting!}

My goal when photographing a wedding is to capture the true essence of the event. In order to provide you with the best service I like to completely understand your vision. Often times when meeting with clients I ask them to describe their perfect wedding. I want to know if your wedding is in doors or out doors, day or night, classic or modern, formal or informal, is it cosmopolitan or more country... I also want to know the color pallet, what are the decorations going to look like, and what kinds of flowers are you using. Knowing your vision can make all the difference.

Another thing to show your photographer is pictures of the location. Most locations have website with pictures but more then likely they do not capture everything. Now-a-days everyone has access to camera whether it be your purse sized point in shoot or a simple camera phone, they don't have to be award winning photos they just have to give the photographer a feel for the location.

Another thing thats truly helpful is a timeline. A timeline helps me to track the sun. Know the natural lighting I have to work with I can make arrangements to bring more gear if I need to.

The days leading up to your event I spend a great deal of time putting together shot list, organizing shots within the timeline, getting gear ready, mapping out the location, looking at the location, reviewing notes, etc.....

{Friends of The World Food Program}

Yesterday, I donated my time and photography to The Friends of The World Food Program. This is not a program that simply feeds the less fortunate around the world. This program provides nutritious food, health care, job training, disaster relief, and schooling for children.

This is a program that actually works to improve lives of the less fortunate. They provide meals to children at school. Which means children must go to school in order to receive food and as a result school attendance is up. Education is a key factor in breaking the vicious starvation cycle for these impoverished communities.

This event was amazing; it was a diverse group that all shared a common passion... To End World Hunger. The most distinguished of the group was probably former Secretary of Agriculture Daniel Glickman. Upon meeting Mr. Glickman I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect but found him to be an extraordinary human being. I say human being because he seemed very passionate about the organization and so down to earth; not exactly what you’d expect from a former politician and now the CEO of MPAA. Another person that was really exciting that spoke was Karen Sendelback the president and CEO of WFP. Karen opened up about her experiences through her work. Karen is such a beacon of hope. Her work has help to save millions and her passion leads people in her campaign.

As Americans and members of the human race it’s our duty to help out the less fortunate. If you’d like more information please visit Friends of the world food program

{Musicians}

5th Avenue Orchestras & Entertainment

Fifth Avenue Orchestras & Entertainment, Inc., has gratefully been furnishing superior music and entertainment for sophisticated special events since 1981. We are based in Woodland Hills, California and we provide services throughout the world, as well as the local Southern California area.

There are no "agents" in Fifth Avenue. By design, rather we choose to think of ourselves as a "boutique" entertainment company: "by musicians, for musicians in service to our valued clients." The owner of Fifth Avenue Orchestras is a longtime veteran of the recording industry, having personally earned Gold Record Awards for his in-studio work. Our office staff are brilliant, upbeat individuals who are extremely knowledgeable of the Special Events industry... and are eager to help you.

We are a spiritually-based organization, and we choose to measure our success by the quality of service rendered to our clients rather than the quantity of engagements at which we perform.. Although we regularly perform at in excess of two hundred events per year, our business philosophy dictates that we turn down many offers, as well.

Our clients place their trust in us, and we continually endeavor to give them the attention which they deserve. Simply put: rather than being perceived as "one of the largest," our goal is to continue to be perceived as "one of the best."
